Khazaria was a major political and economic power at the crossroads of Europe and Asia during the early Middle Ages. Militarily, Khazaria is best known for blunting the Muslim advance north of the Caucasus mountains, and participated in several other pivotal wars. Policies of the Khazar government influenced the migration of various peoples and this led to the creation of the nations of Bulgaria and Hungary.
